Jharkhand CM slams alleged police station rape as 'jungle raj'

Chief Minister Champai Soren has expressed strong disapproval of an alleged rape incident that occurred within the confines of a police station in Jharkhand, describing it as a shocking display of jungle raj—a reference to lawlessness and breakdown of order.

The incident involved a woman who was assaulted inside Gamharia police station. Constable Niraj Lakra has been arrested in connection with the allegation. The state authorities have initiated swift action against those accused of facilitating or overlooking the crime.

Five police personnel, including Sanjay Prasad, the officer-in-charge of Gamharia police station, have been suspended pending investigation. They face charges of dereliction of duty and criminal negligence for failing to prevent the alleged assault or protect the complainant while she was in police custody.

The incident has raised serious questions about safety and accountability within police stations. Chief Minister Soren's strong condemnation reflects growing public concern over such allegations and the need for enhanced oversight mechanisms within law enforcement agencies across the state.
