The institutional crisis deepened when former JPSC Chairman L. Khiangte was arrested on August 10, just one day after the members stepped down from their positions.

The resignations and subsequent arrest reflected mounting public pressure over allegations of procedural lapses and irregularities in the recruitment process, which had triggered significant unrest among examination candidates across the state. The High Court's intervention through the fixed timeline aims to restore functional capacity to the commission and restore public confidence in the recruitment system.
