Jharkhand students suspend exam protest after government cancels 22 tests

Student protesters in Jharkhand have suspended their month-long demonstration against alleged irregularities in state recruitment examinations, offering the government a two-month window to address their demands. The JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch, the group leading the agitation at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi, announced the suspension on Wednesday after the JMM-led government took corrective action on Tuesday.

The government notification issued Tuesday cancelled 22 recruitment examinations and ordered a comprehensive investigation into 23 others conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission and an outsourced agency since 2014. The move represents a significant concession to student demands following weeks of sustained pressure.

Three protesters—Rupesh Kumar Pal, Savita Kumari, and Rahul Kranti—ended their 15-day fast on Wednesday in response to the government's announcement. Ravindra Paswan, a leader of the Reforms Manch, credited the 26-day protest with forcing the government to take action on the examination system.

The student groups have set a two-month deadline for the government to complete a fair and transparent investigation into the recruitment exam irregularities and implement systemic reforms. The suspension of the agitation does not indicate an end to student activism, with leaders indicating they remain prepared to resume protests if the government fails to meet their timeline.
