Shares of Jio Financial Services declined 2.5% in market trading following the company's second-quarter results, which revealed net profit had halved compared to the prior year period. The decline prompted analyst revisions at major brokerages tracking the stock.
Motilal Oswal Financial Services, in its post-results assessment, acknowledged that Jio Financial maintained healthy operational execution and continued to drive growth across its business segments. However, the research house cited a substantial increase in provisions as a primary driver behind its decision to cut earnings projections for fiscal year 2027.
The higher provisioning levels suggest the company is taking a more conservative approach to potential credit risks and loan losses, a common occurrence in the financial services sector during periods of economic uncertainty or elevated stress in the lending portfolio.
Analysts noted that while underlying business performance metrics remained sound, the elevated provision requirements had dampened bottom-line profitability in the quarter, necessitating downward revisions to full-year financial forecasts. The earnings cuts are expected to weigh on investor sentiment in the near term as market participants adjust valuations based on the revised guidance.
