Jio to challenge Starlink with affordable satellite internet service

Reliance Jio has signalled its intention to compete aggressively in India's emerging satellite internet sector, with company leadership committing to deliver high-quality connectivity at competitive prices.

Akash Ambani, Managing Director of Jio Platforms, indicated the company's strategy to undercut rival offerings while maintaining service quality standards. The announcement comes as India's telecom regulator and government move to expand broadband access across the country through satellite-based solutions.

The Indian government has approved licences for three companies to operate satellite internet services, pitting Jio directly against Elon Musk's Starlink and other operators. Starlink has been expanding its presence in India, targeting underserved rural and remote areas where traditional terrestrial networks remain limited.

Jio's entry into the satellite broadband space represents a significant development in India's digital infrastructure landscape. The company's established customer base, network infrastructure, and financial resources position it as a formidable competitor in the growing market for non-terrestrial communications services.

The intensifying competition is expected to benefit Indian consumers through improved service options and pricing, particularly in regions where conventional broadband connectivity remains inadequate.
