John Keells Holdings (JKH) recorded a profit before tax of Rs.7.95 billion in the second quarter of 2026/27, demonstrating resilience across its diversified business portfolio. Group earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) reached Rs.18.30 billion, broadly consistent with the Rs.18.36 billion achieved in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.
The conglomerate's performance reflected broad-based growth across most of its operating divisions, which helped offset a materially weaker contribution from John Keells CG Auto (JKCG) during the quarter. The decline in the automotive sector segment underscores ongoing challenges in that business unit, though this was counterbalanced by stronger showings from other JKH subsidiaries.
Attributable profit after tax expanded substantially year-on-year, indicating improved profitability at the group level despite the flat EBITDA performance. This improvement signals effective cost management and operational efficiency gains across JKH's various businesses, which span retail, hotels, leisure, and manufacturing sectors.
The results underscore JKH's ability to generate value through its diversified investment holdings, with growth drivers in several segments offsetting sector-specific headwinds. The conglomerate continues to navigate the evolving economic landscape while maintaining steady earnings generation across its portfolio.
