Johor Bahru-Singapore rail link pushed back to February 2027

The joint authorities revealed on Friday that the Johor Bahru-Singapore RTS Link will not begin operations until early next year, extending the timeline for one of the region's most significant infrastructure projects. The revised schedule reflects the complexity of launching a cross-border rail service that requires rigorous compliance with both nations' regulatory frameworks.
Official statements indicated that several critical phases remain incomplete, including comprehensive system testing, independent safety certification assessments, and formal regulatory approvals from both governments. These procedures are essential to ensure the service meets the stringent safety and operational standards required for international passenger transport.
The RTS Link has long been anticipated as a key connectivity initiative between Singapore and Johor Bahru, promising to enhance cross-border mobility and economic integration. The project represents a major collaboration between Malaysian and Singaporean authorities and has been subject to multiple timeline adjustments since its inception.
The February 2027 target represents the latest in a series of revisions to the project schedule. Both governments have emphasized their commitment to ensuring the facility opens safely and is fully prepared to handle passenger operations when it eventually becomes operational.
