Pasir Gudang in Johor maintained its position as the nation's most polluted area as of 8am, with an API reading of 177 placing it firmly in the unhealthy category. The southern state continues to experience the most severe air quality deterioration, reflecting the broader haze situation affecting much of peninsular Malaysia.
The Air Pollutant Index readings across 27 locations signalled widespread air quality concerns on Wednesday morning. While Johor remained the hardest hit, the Klang Valley experienced a notable upward trajectory in pollution levels, raising concerns about potential expansion of the haze problem to the densely populated region around Kuala Lumpur.
An API reading between 151 and 200 is classified as unhealthy, prompting health authorities to advise vulnerable groups including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions to limit outdoor activities. Readings above 200 are considered very unhealthy.
The continued deterioration underscores ongoing regional transboundary haze challenges, with authorities monitoring air quality conditions closely across the peninsula. Residents in affected areas have been advised to check real-time API updates and take appropriate precautions.
