Johor distributes free 5G SIM packages to 5,000 B40 students

A total of 5,000 students from B40 households in Johor have been selected to receive free SIM packages as part of an effort to enhance digital access to education. Each package includes a SIM card pre-loaded with 50GB of high-speed internet data, provided at no cost to the recipients.

The initiative seeks to remove connectivity barriers that may hinder students from disadvantaged backgrounds in accessing online learning materials and educational platforms. With increasing reliance on digital resources in the education sector, the provision of free data aims to ensure that economic constraints do not prevent students from participating fully in their studies.

The programme underscores ongoing efforts in Malaysia to narrow the digital divide and promote inclusive education. By equipping students with reliable internet access, authorities hope to level the playing field for learners across different socioeconomic backgrounds, particularly in smaller towns and rural areas where digital infrastructure may be limited.

The distribution of the SIM packages represents a targeted intervention to support B40 communities, classified as the bottom 40 per cent of household income earners in Malaysia. Similar initiatives have been rolled out in various states to address connectivity challenges faced by lower-income families.
