Johor dominates unhealthy air quality readings across Malaysia

Johor has emerged as the primary hotspot for poor air quality in Malaysia, with more than 50 percent of the nation's unhealthy air pollutant index readings recorded in the state this morning. The recurring pollution episodes underscore ongoing environmental concerns in the region.

The Air Pollutant Index, or API, measures concentrations of five major air pollutants including particulate matter and ground-level ozone. Readings above 100 are considered unhealthy, while those exceeding 200 pose serious health risks to the general population.

Johor's persistent air quality challenges have raised concerns among health authorities and environmental groups. Prolonged exposure to unhealthy air levels can trigger respiratory illnesses and exacerbate existing conditions among vulnerable populations, including children and the elderly.

Regional monitoring agencies have continued to track air quality developments across the state. Residents are typically advised to limit outdoor activities and use protective masks when API levels reach unhealthy thresholds. The situation remains under observation as authorities work to address underlying pollution sources.
