JOHOR BAHRU — The Johor Road Transport Department (JPJ) will convene meetings with private hire vehicle operators to develop strategies addressing persistent traffic violations among drivers, particularly red light running.

The collaboration aims to tap into ride-hailing platforms' operational oversight and incentive structures to encourage safer driving practices among their driver networks. JPJ officials believe that operators can play a key role in implementing corrective measures and monitoring systems to reduce repeat offences.

Red light violations remain among the most hazardous traffic infractions, contributing significantly to intersection-related accidents. The department has identified the need for a multi-stakeholder approach involving ride-hailing firms, whose business models depend on driver compliance and public safety.

The proposed discussions will likely cover implementation of in-vehicle monitoring systems, driver training programmes, and penalty frameworks that complement existing traffic enforcement mechanisms. Officials hope the engagement will foster greater cooperation between regulatory authorities and the private transportation sector.

The initiative reflects growing recognition that addressing chronic traffic violations requires partnerships beyond traditional enforcement, with ride-hailing operators positioned as critical partners in promoting road safety standards across Johor's transportation networks.
