Johor police mobilise thousands for flood-hit monsoon season

Johor police have launched a major deployment across 337 identified flood hotspots as the region prepares for the north-east monsoon season, traditionally the wettest period for Malaysia's southern state. The coordinated operation aims to strengthen emergency response capabilities and minimise disruption to residents in flood-vulnerable areas.

The Johor Welfare Department has complemented the police deployment by setting up 1,072 temporary evacuation centres strategically positioned throughout the state. These facilities are equipped to accommodate up to 265,599 evacuees, ensuring adequate shelter for residents requiring relocation during severe flooding events.

The north-east monsoon typically brings heavy rainfall from November through March, with previous years witnessing significant flooding that displaced thousands of people and caused widespread infrastructure damage. By pre-positioning resources and establishing contingency centres in advance, authorities aim to enhance the speed and efficiency of disaster response operations.

The multi-agency preparations underscore the state government's commitment to disaster risk management and community safety during the monsoon season. Residents in flood-prone areas have been advised to remain vigilant and familiarise themselves with evacuation procedures and nearby relief centres.
