The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) has emerged as a significant investment destination, drawing RM88.83 billion in approved projects since its establishment, Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir announced. The figure underscores the zone's appeal to both domestic and foreign investors seeking opportunities within the bilateral economic framework.
Of the total approved investments, 45 percent—equivalent to RM40.30 billion—has been realised to date, Akmal said. The realisation rate indicates substantial progress in translating project approvals into operational ventures and capital deployment within the SEZ.
The JS-SEZ, a collaborative initiative between Malaysia and Singapore, spans strategic locations in Johor designed to facilitate trade, manufacturing, and services sectors. The investment inflow reflects growing confidence in the zone's infrastructure, regulatory environment, and strategic positioning within Southeast Asia's broader economic landscape.
The minister's statement highlights the zone's role in attracting high-value projects and creating economic linkages between the two nations. As more approved investments transition to realisation phase, the SEZ is expected to generate increased employment and contribute measurably to Malaysia's economic growth trajectory.
