Joyalukkas has emerged as the successful bidder for Tamil Nadu's Rs 755-crore newborn gold scheme, securing the contract to distribute gold rings to approximately 4.42 lakh babies across the state. The jewellery chain quoted a nominal service charge of just one paisa per gram above the prevailing gold rate, making it the lowest bidder in the tender process.
The ambitious scheme, announced as a flagship initiative, aims to provide each newborn with a one-gram gold ring as a symbolic gift. The minimal service charge quoted by Joyalukkas demonstrates the competitive nature of the tender and the company's commitment to the state's welfare programme.
The contract represents a significant opportunity for the jeweller to expand its reach across Tamil Nadu while participating in a government-backed initiative. Joyalukkas, one of India's prominent jewellery retailers with a strong presence in South India, is expected to establish distribution mechanisms to ensure efficient delivery of the rings to beneficiaries across various districts.
The scheme reflects the state government's focus on early childhood support and symbolically marks its commitment to the welfare of newborns. With the tender awarded, implementation is expected to commence in phases, covering eligible newborns across government and private hospitals in Tamil Nadu.
