Junior doctors at Osmania General Hospital have launched a protest citing chronic equipment failures that are hampering patient care at the government facility in Hyderabad. According to N. Chandrakanth Reddy, president of the Osmania Medical College Junior Doctors' Association (OMC JUDA), ventilators, the catheterisation laboratory, and several diagnostic machines have remained non-functional for extended periods.
The doctors have expressed frustration over the lack of concrete resolution despite recently meeting with the state Health Secretary. No firm assurances were provided regarding timelines for equipment repairs or replacements, according to the association.
The protest highlights ongoing concerns about infrastructure deficiencies at government medical institutions in Telangana. Osmania General Hospital, one of the region's premier tertiary care centres, serves a large patient population but has faced recurring challenges with equipment maintenance and upgrades.
The matter comes amid broader debates in India about the adequacy of public healthcare infrastructure and funding. Junior doctors argue that non-functional critical care equipment directly impacts patient outcomes and creates unsafe working conditions for medical staff.
