Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama issued the acquittal order on Wednesday, concluding the legal proceedings that stemmed from a controversial incident at the Mrs. World pageant held in Sri Lanka two years ago.
The case centered on allegations arising from an on-stage incident during the pageant where Jurie removed the crown from the newly crowned Mrs. World title holder. The incident generated significant public attention and legal action at the time.
With the acquittal, both Jurie and Padmendra have been cleared of charges related to the incident. The court's decision concludes one of the more high-profile cases involving Sri Lanka's pageant community in recent years.
The case had attracted considerable interest given the prominence of those involved in the country's entertainment and pageant sectors.
