Kakinada braces for cyclone Arnab as nearly 90,000 evacuated

Nearly 89,000 residents along the Kakinada coast are being relocated to relief camps as cyclone Arnab approaches Andhra Pradesh's vulnerable shoreline. The mass evacuation is part of precautionary measures being undertaken by state authorities in anticipation of severe weather conditions.

In Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, the primary focus of evacuation efforts, residents from 67 villages have been or are being shifted to designated relief camps. Among those prioritized for relocation are 88 pregnant women, who have been moved to nearby government hospitals to ensure access to medical care during the cyclonic conditions.

Educational institutions across the Godavari region have been ordered closed for two days as a precautionary measure. The shutdown includes all schools and colleges in the area, keeping students and staff off the streets during the expected period of severe weather.

The evacuation operations underscore the region's vulnerability to cyclonic storms and reflect established protocols for protecting populations in coastal areas. Authorities continue to monitor weather developments and coordinate relief operations across affected districts.
