Kalaburagi should become Karnataka's second administrative centre
A former local administrator has called for developing Kalaburagi as a regional second capital to address governance challenges in Kalyana Karnataka. The proposal aims to decentralise administrative functions across the state.

Deepaknag Punneshetty, former president of the Kalaburagi Zilla Panchayat, has advocated for establishing Kalaburagi as Karnataka's second administrative centre and regional capital. The proposal targets the underserved Kalyana Karnataka region, which comprises the state's northern districts.
Punneshetty argues that developing Kalaburagi as a secondary hub would improve governance delivery across the geographically dispersed region. Currently, all major administrative functions remain concentrated in Bengaluru, creating accessibility issues for citizens and officials across peripheral areas.
The divisional headquarters of Kalyana Karnataka, Kalaburagi has historically served as a significant administrative node. Proponents of the plan contend that upgrading its infrastructure and institutional capacity could reduce bureaucratic delays and bring government services closer to citizens in the region.
The proposal aligns with broader discussions in Karnataka about decentralised governance and equitable development. State policymakers have increasingly focused on reducing Bengaluru's administrative burden through strategic delegation to regional centres.
