Kampar MP urges PAC probe into alleged four-year budget overruns

Kampar Member of Parliament Chong Zhemin has urged the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to conduct a thorough investigation into allegations that the Statutory Bodies Service Department (KKDW) has consistently overspent its annual budget allocation.

The call comes amid concerns that the department's repeated budget breaches over the past four years may indicate systemic issues with financial management and oversight. Chong emphasised the importance of conducting a comprehensive inquiry to determine whether proper financial procedures have been followed.

The PAC, which serves as Parliament's watchdog for government spending, is tasked with examining public sector financial management and accountability. An investigation into the KKDW's budgetary practices could reveal underlying problems with resource allocation and expenditure controls within the department.

Chong's call reflects growing scrutiny of government spending practices as lawmakers seek to strengthen fiscal discipline across statutory bodies. The inquiry would help establish whether corrective measures are needed to prevent future budget overruns and ensure better stewardship of public funds.
