Kampar woman loses RM129,000 in elaborate online job scam

IPOH — A woman from Kampar has reported losing RM129,000 after being deceived by scammers posing as recruiters for a fictitious online employment opportunity. The victim was initially approached through social media with promises of high returns for minimal work, a tactic commonly used in such schemes.

According to police reports filed in Ipoh, the woman was instructed to make multiple transfers under the guise of various fees and deposits required to activate her "employment account." Each payment was justified with assurances of significantly higher earnings, encouraging her to continue investing money into the fraudulent arrangement.

The scheme unraveled when the victim attempted to withdraw her promised earnings and discovered the company did not exist. By that point, she had already transferred substantial sums to multiple bank accounts controlled by the scammers.

The case has been referred to the police's commercial crime unit for investigation. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant when responding to unsolicited job offers online, particularly those promising unusually high compensation with minimal effort. Potential job seekers are advised to verify employment opportunities through official company channels and to be wary of requests for upfront payments.
