Kanpur businessman arrested for alleged bigamy, fraud against Thai woman

Kanpur police arrested Mohammed Irfan, a local businessman, following a complaint lodged by a Thai woman who alleged she was deceived into marriage. According to the complaint, Irfan misrepresented his marital status as single before marrying the woman, later defrauding her of approximately ₹60 lakh.

The woman further alleged that after discovering Irfan's existing family of three children, she faced pressure to convert to Islam. The dispute escalated when she traveled to Irfan's residence to confront him about the deception, prompting neighbors to alert authorities.

The Anwarganj police station registered a case against Irfan following the incident. Investigations are underway to establish the full extent of the allegations, including charges related to bigamy, fraud, and alleged coercion regarding religious conversion. Police have not released additional details about the case.
