Kapunan questions VP Duterte's disclosure of prior bank balances
Private prosecutor Lorna Kapunan has raised doubts about whether Vice President Sara Duterte properly declared her bank account holdings in previous years, citing the difficulty of verifying such declarations through subsequent withdrawals.

MANILA — Private prosecutor Lorna Kapunan questioned Tuesday whether Vice President Sara Duterte accurately disclosed her bank balances in financial declarations, arguing that later withdrawals would not necessarily confirm the accuracy of prior year filings.
During an interview on ANC's "Headstart," Kapunan challenged a potential defense argument that funds could have simply moved through various accounts, making it difficult to verify the legitimacy of originally declared amounts.
The issue centers on whether the Vice President's financial statements properly reflected all money held in her accounts during the periods covered by required government disclosures. Kapunan's comments suggest investigators face obstacles in corroborating the accuracy of declared balances through bank transaction records alone.
The matter remains part of ongoing scrutiny of Duterte's financial affairs as authorities continue examining her statements of assets, liabilities, and net worth filed with appropriate government agencies.
