Karnataka Bank Q2 Profit Surges 37% on Improved Asset Quality

Karnataka Bank posted robust earnings growth in the second quarter of fiscal 2024-25, with consolidated net profit climbing to Rs 435.86 crore compared to Rs 318.67 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. The private sector lender's improved bottom line reflects both enhanced operational efficiency and strengthening credit quality across its portfolio.

Operating profit before provisions and contingencies expanded during the quarter, indicating stronger core business performance. The bank's asset quality metrics showed material improvement, suggesting better credit risk management and recoveries from stressed accounts. Gross non-performing assets and provisions reduced sequentially, signalling improvement in the loan portfolio's health.

The southern India-focused lender has been focusing on deposit mobilisation and credit expansion while maintaining prudent underwriting standards. The improved profitability and asset quality suggest the bank's strategic initiatives are yielding results amid the broader credit cycle.

The bank's capital position remains adequate to support growth aspirations. Analysts will be watching for trends in net interest margin and operating expenses in coming quarters as the lender navigates evolving competitive pressures in the banking sector.
