Karnataka boosts DA for state employees to 18 percent

The Karnataka government has approved an increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for its state employees, effective immediately. The DA, which serves as a cost-of-living adjustment, has been raised from the current rate of 15.75 percent to 18 percent of basic pay.

The decision aims to provide financial relief to state government staff as inflation continues to impact household expenses across the region. The increased allowance will apply to all eligible state government employees on their basic salary.

Dearness Allowance is a key component of government employee compensation, designed to offset the effects of inflation on purchasing power. The revision represents a 2.25 percentage point increase from the previous rate, which is expected to translate into measurable financial benefit for the state's workforce.

The move aligns with periodic reviews of DA rates undertaken by state governments across India to ensure employee welfare and maintain competitive compensation packages. Karnataka joins other states in adjusting DA structures to reflect economic conditions.
