Karnataka CM plans pan-regional cultural extravaganza for Dasara finale

Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has announced plans to transform the Dasara procession finale into a showcase of regional culture and heritage, marking an expansion of the traditional festivities in Mysuru. The enhanced celebration will feature elaborate tableaux representing neighbouring states, reflecting the cultural diversity of South India and strengthening inter-state cultural ties.

The proposed modifications to the iconic procession underscore the government's ambition to position Mysuru's Dasara as a premier cultural event of national significance. By incorporating representations from adjoining states, the event aims to create a more inclusive and comprehensive display of the region's artistic traditions and historical narratives.

To further elevate the spectacle, the Karnataka government has formally approached the Defence Ministry seeking approval for an air show component during the festivities. Such an addition would represent a departure from conventional Dasara celebrations, introducing a contemporary element alongside traditional cultural performances.

The Mysuru Dasara, celebrated annually for over four centuries, has historically drawn thousands of visitors and remains one of India's most prominent festival celebrations. These proposed enhancements reflect efforts to sustain and reinvigorate public interest in the event while preserving its cultural essence.
