Karnataka CM seeks deadline extension for voter claims amid concerns over discrepancies

Karnataka's Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has appealed to the Chief Election Commissioner for an extended deadline to submit claims and objections under the Systematic Integrated Registration (SIR) initiative, citing significant concerns about the scale of potential voter roll discrepancies in the state.
In his correspondence, Shivakumar highlighted what he termed "alarming numbers," noting that approximately 1.08 crore names have been marked as ASDDO (Absent, Shifted, Dead, Disqualified, or Objectionable) and around 43 lakh voters are set to receive notices regarding logical inconsistencies in their electoral records.
The SIR initiative, undertaken by the Election Commission, aims to identify and rectify errors and duplications in voter rolls. However, the sheer volume of flagged entries in Karnataka has prompted the Chief Minister to seek more time for affected citizens to respond to notices and file appropriate objections or claims.
The extension request underscores growing administrative and procedural concerns about managing electoral discrepancies on this scale within the original stipulated timeframe. The Election Commission's response to the request remains pending.
