A special inquiry report submitted in connection with electoral fraud allegations in Karnataka's Mahadevapura Assembly constituency has exposed substantial anomalies in voter registration records. The investigation found over 800 voter identification numbers—EPIC cards—linked to just 397 names, indicating systematic irregularities in the electoral roll.
The probe revealed multiple categories of violations in voter registration practices. In several instances, individual voters were issued multiple EPIC identification numbers, while in other cases, the same EPIC number appeared in the final electoral roll across two different constituencies, creating duplicate and conflicting entries.
These findings emerged from investigations into initial allegations of "vote chori" or vote theft that first surfaced in the constituency. The anomalies raise concerns about the integrity of voter registration processes and potential vulnerabilities to electoral malpractice in the region.
The discovery has prompted scrutiny of how such discrepancies entered the official electoral rolls and whether they represent intentional manipulation or administrative failures. Election officials are expected to undertake a comprehensive review of voter records in Mahadevapura and potentially other constituencies to identify and rectify similar irregularities.
