Karnataka District Collector Issues Notice to Police Chief Over Idol Immersion Row

Hassan district in Karnataka witnessed an administrative standoff after Ganesha and Gauri idol immersions took place in violation of district administration directives, officials said on Friday. District Collector K.S. Lathakumari has directed Superintendent of Police Shubhanithya to respond to a show-cause notice, citing alleged negligence in enforcing the ban on the ritual ceremonies. The superintendent has been ordered to appear before the collector and submit a written explanation regarding the incident. The collector's action marks a rare inter-departmental confrontation between the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) cadres over jurisdictional and compliance responsibilities. Officials did not immediately clarify the specific reasons behind the administration's decision to restrict the immersions or the circumstances that led to their execution despite the ban.
