Karnataka district restricts school trips to religious and community events

Schools across Chamarajanagar district in Karnataka have been directed to refrain from organising student excursions to religious ceremonies, community festivals and public events, according to orders issued by district education officials.

The restriction applies to all educational institutions within the district and seeks to ensure that school-sponsored activities remain within academic and secular boundaries. Officials have clarified that the measure is intended to maintain institutional neutrality and prevent potential issues arising from student participation in non-academic gatherings.

The directive comes as part of broader efforts by educational authorities to standardise conduct policies across schools in the region. Institutional heads have been instructed to communicate the guidelines to staff and parents, ensuring clarity on permissible field activities and educational outings.

Schools are expected to focus student trips on educationally relevant destinations such as museums, historical sites, scientific institutions and other venues that directly support the curriculum. The ban does not affect classroom-based studies of religion, culture and social traditions as part of formal instruction.
