Karnataka election body inundated with over 1.1 lakh voter roll objections

The Karnataka State Election Commission is processing a significant volume of objections as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls continues across the state. According to official figures, the commission has received 110,654 applications from citizens seeking to contest proposed additions or deletions of names from voter registers.

The objection filings represent a notable surge in public engagement with the electoral process, reflecting heightened scrutiny of voter list accuracy. Citizens have been filing Form 7 applications to challenge entries they believe are erroneous or to seek inclusion of eligible voters who may have been inadvertently omitted from the rolls.

The SIR initiative was launched to conduct a comprehensive review of electoral rolls and rectify discrepancies. The sheer number of objections underscores concerns among residents regarding the completeness and accuracy of voter registers, a critical component of electoral integrity.

Election officials are tasked with examining each objection and making determinations on whether the proposed changes to voter rolls should proceed. The commission is expected to complete its review process before the applications are finalized and updated rolls are published.
