The Karnataka electoral authorities have received 110,654 applications seeking to challenge proposed entries or deletions of names from the state's voter rolls during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
The surge in objections reflects significant public engagement with the electoral roll revision exercise, which aims to ensure accuracy and remove duplicate or ineligible entries. The applications have raised questions about the scope and implementation of the revision process across the state.
To manage the volume of claims and objections, the Election Commission has established October 22 as the final deadline for disposal of all objections and claims. This will be followed by the publication of the final electoral roll on October 27, providing a narrow window for resolution of disputed entries.
The SIR process is critical for maintaining the integrity of electoral rolls ahead of elections. Electoral officials are now focused on processing the applications within the compressed timeline while ensuring due process is followed in resolving each dispute.
