Karnataka government moves to formally recognize state's Kannada flag

The Karnataka state government is advancing plans to formally recognize the Kannada flag as a symbol of regional identity, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced. The move reflects efforts to strengthen cultural and linguistic pride in the southern state.

Under the proposed initiative, state-supported institutions would be required to fly the Kannada flag, establishing a uniform standard across government schools, colleges, and administrative buildings. The government also intends to issue formal directives enabling private educational institutions and organizations to adopt the flag voluntarily.

The recognition of regional flags has become increasingly common among Indian states as expressions of local identity and heritage. The Kannada flag, featuring the lion symbol from the Ashoka Chakra along with regional colors, holds significance for Kannada-speaking communities.

The government's decision aligns with broader efforts to promote Kannada language and culture within the state administration and educational institutions. Officials indicated that detailed orders would be issued soon to implement the flag-flying provisions across both government and private sectors.
