Karnataka launches employment drive to stem rural migration tide

Karnataka's state government has intensified efforts to curb migration by launching comprehensive employment programmes designed to create local job opportunities and discourage workers from relocating to neighbouring states. The initiative addresses mounting concerns about skilled and semi-skilled labour departing the state in search of better wages and working conditions elsewhere.

The employment push encompasses skill development programmes, wage subsidies for employers, and targeted recruitment drives across industrial sectors including manufacturing, agriculture, and services. State authorities have identified reverse migration as a critical economic challenge, with significant numbers of workers moving to states like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana where employment prospects appear more attractive.

Government officials contend that creating sustainable employment within Karnataka will strengthen the state's economic base while reducing the strain on workers who incur substantial costs relocating.
