Karnataka launches women-focused transport initiative with hygiene facilities

The Women's Mobility and Hygiene Network (WOMN) initiative aims to address the practical needs of female commuters using KSRTC services across Karnataka. The deployment of sanitary napkin dispensers and safe disposal incinerators at strategic transport hubs represents a step toward making public transportation more inclusive and accessible for women.

The rollout covers 14 KSRTC depots and terminals, providing basic menstrual hygiene infrastructure at key transit points. The vending machines offer affordable access to sanitary products, while dedicated incinerators ensure safe and hygienic disposal, addressing a gap in public amenities that women often face while traveling.

The initiative reflects growing recognition among transport authorities of the need to cater to gender-specific requirements in public infrastructure. By integrating these facilities at major transportation hubs, KSRTC aims to enhance dignity and convenience for its female passengers and encourage greater women participation in public transport usage.

The deployment is expected to benefit thousands of women commuters who rely on KSRTC services daily across the state. Officials indicated that the initiative may serve as a model for expansion across additional depots, depending on its reception and impact among users.
