The Karnataka government has issued an official order restricting the rendition of Vande Mataram to two stanzas at state-level functions and public events. The directive represents a departure from the practice of performing the entire composition at routine administrative gatherings.
According to the order, however, the full six stanzas of Vande Mataram will continue to be sung or played at functions attended by the President, Vice-President, Prime Minister, or Governor. This exception underscores the ceremonial importance accorded to these constitutional positions.
Vande Mataram, the nationalist composition penned by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in the 19th century, holds significant cultural and historical importance in India. The two-stanza directive appears aimed at streamlining protocol at routine state events while maintaining full observance during high-level state functions.
The order is applicable to government offices, educational institutions, and other organizations under the Karnataka administration. Officials have been directed to ensure compliance with the new guidelines regarding the performance of the national composition.
