Karnataka Lokayukta arrests village officer, aide over bribery allegations

The Lokayukta, Karnataka's anti-corruption watchdog, has apprehended a Village Administrative Officer (VAO) and a private aide in Kalaburagi district for their alleged involvement in accepting bribes. The arrests were made following a coordinated investigation and sting operation by the agency.

The VAO and his associate are accused of demanding and accepting money in return for facilitating official administrative services. Such cases of alleged corruption among lower-level government functionaries remain a persistent concern across rural Karnataka, where village administrative officers wield considerable influence over land records, certificates, and other essential documentation.
