Karnataka may purge over 1 crore voters from electoral rolls

Karnataka's electoral rolls are set for substantial revision, with potentially 1.08 crore voters facing removal from the draft voter list, state officials said. The deletions are expected as part of routine verification and data cleaning processes following the initial registration phase.

State election authorities distributed 5.54 crore additional registration forms across Karnataka as part of an ongoing voter enrolment drive. Of these forms, approximately 4.46 crore have been digitised and processed, according to official figures.

The large-scale removal of voter names typically occurs when duplicate registrations are identified, deceased voters are removed from rolls, or individuals are found to have registered in multiple constituencies. Election commission officials conduct verification checks to ensure electoral rolls accurately reflect eligible voters.

The final voter list will be published after all pending objections and corrections are processed. Voters who believe their names have been wrongly deleted can file appeals during the designated correction period before the rolls are officially notified. The verification exercise is part of Karnataka's regular electoral roll maintenance procedures.
