Karnataka medical entrance exam chaos as students demand seat allocation review

Students and parents gathered at KEA offices on Tuesday, demanding a review of the seat allocation process for medical college admissions following complaints of system failures and allocation errors. The agitation highlighted concerns over transparency in the computerized counselling procedure, with multiple aspirants reporting discrepancies between their choices and final seat allotments.

Parents claimed that qualified candidates were denied seats in their preferred colleges while others received allocations in institutions ranked lower than their eligibility warranted. Technical issues during the online registration and choice-filling phases reportedly affected the accuracy of the matching algorithm, leaving hundreds of students uncertain about their admission prospects.

Authority officials acknowledged receiving complaints and promised to conduct a preliminary examination of the allocation data. However, they stopped short of committing to a full cancellation, instead suggesting a case-by-case review of disputed allocations.

The incident marks the latest controversy in Karnataka's medical seat allocation system, which has faced criticism in previous years for lack of transparency and insufficient grievance redressal mechanisms. Medical education stakeholders have called for stricter quality checks in future counselling cycles to prevent similar disruptions.
