Minister Sharan Prakash Patil rejected claims made by opposition leaders concerning the water allocation to Telangana, asserting that the accusations were unfounded and driven by electoral considerations rather than genuine concern for state interests.
Former minister Narasimha Naik, also known as Raju Gowda, was among opposition figures who have contested the water release decision. Patil countered these charges, maintaining that the government's actions were in accordance with established protocols and interstate agreements governing water-sharing arrangements.
The dispute touches on a sensitive issue in southern India, where water resource management and interstate allocation remain contentious topics. Karnataka and Telangana share several river systems, and decisions regarding water distribution frequently attract political scrutiny from opposition quarters.
The minister's statement underscores the ongoing tension between the state government and opposition parties over water policy implementation. Such disputes have periodically featured in Karnataka's political discourse, with various stakeholders asserting different interpretations of existing water-sharing agreements and their implementation.
