Karnataka Minister Urges RSS to Obtain Police Permission for October 25 Marches

Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge has sought to clarify the distinction between informing authorities and obtaining necessary permissions, directing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to formally approach police for approval of its October 25 marches.

Kharge's statement comes after the RSS submitted communications to police detailing proposed routes for the demonstrations and requesting cooperation in logistical arrangements. However, the minister emphasized that such notifications do not automatically constitute approval for holding the processions.

"Informing isn't seeking clearance," Kharge stated, underlining that the organization must follow proper procedures to obtain police permission before proceeding with the marches. The clarification appears aimed at ensuring compliance with standard protocols governing public gatherings and processions in the state.

The RSS has outlined specific routes through various areas as part of its October 25 schedule. Authorities will now examine the proposed plans through established channels to determine whether permissions can be granted, based on factors including public order concerns, traffic management, and other administrative considerations.

The matter underscores the importance of distinction between preliminary notification and formal sanction in handling demonstrations and public assemblies across Indian states.
