The Karnataka State Election Commission has published the final electoral roll after completing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, which saw the deletion of over 99.32 lakh names from voter registers across the state.
The extensive revision was undertaken to eliminate duplicate entries, deceased voters, and those who had shifted their residence outside their respective constituencies. Election officials described the drive as part of routine efforts to maintain an accurate and updated voter database.
The SIR process involved intensive ground-level verification and cross-referencing with multiple databases to identify and remove ineligible entries. This systematic approach aims to ensure the integrity of the electoral process and facilitate smoother conduct of future elections in the state.
With the publication of the final roll, Karnataka's election machinery is now equipped with a verified voter database for upcoming electoral exercises. The state joins other Indian states in periodically undertaking such revisions to keep electoral rolls current and accurate, reflecting demographic changes and population movements.
Election officials have urged voters to verify their inclusion in the final rolls and file claims or objections within the prescribed timelines if they find discrepancies in their entries.
