Karnataka raises public transport fares across state-run bus operators
Karnataka has implemented fare increases across its major state-run bus services, though the hike falls short of recommendations from the Public Transport Fare Regulatory Committee. The revision affects BMTC, KSRTC, NWKRTC, and KKRTC services across the state.

The Karnataka government has approved fare revisions for its four primary state-owned bus operators, marking the latest adjustment to public transport costs in the state. The increase applies uniformly across Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC), and Karnataka Kodava Transport Corporation (KKRTC).
The approved fare hike is notably lower than the 45 percent increase that was recommended by the Public Transport Fare Regulatory Committee. The decision reflects efforts by the state government to balance operational sustainability with affordability concerns for commuters who depend on public transportation.
The move comes as state-run transport operators continue to grapple with rising operational costs, including fuel expenses and maintenance. Officials stated that the measured approach to the fare revision aims to ensure continued service delivery while minimizing the burden on passengers across urban and rural areas of Karnataka.
The new fares are expected to take effect following the standard implementation timeline for such regulatory changes. Commuters using inter-city and intra-city services operated by the state transport corporations will see the adjustments reflected in their ticket prices.
