Karnataka's Upper Bhadra Project is on track to reach completion by the end of the current financial year, according to project officials. The initiative aims to lift 17.04 trillion million cubic feet (tmcft) of water from the Tunga river to augment supplies to the Bhadra reservoir, enhancing irrigation and water security in the region.
The state government has committed ₹324 crore to execute the project, which forms a critical component of the state's broader water resource management strategy. Officials have indicated that substantial progress has been made on construction and infrastructure development required for the water-lifting system.
Once operational, the project is expected to significantly improve water availability in command areas dependent on the Bhadra reservoir. The completion timeline reflects the government's prioritization of water infrastructure projects aimed at addressing agricultural and domestic water requirements across the region.
The Upper Bhadra Project represents one of several inter-basin water transfer initiatives undertaken in Karnataka to optimize utilization of available water resources and ensure sustainable supply to beneficiary areas.
