Karnataka temples see record pilgrim numbers during monsoon season

Several prominent religious sites in Karnataka have witnessed a significant surge in pilgrims during the ongoing monsoon month of Sharavana, with female devotees forming a substantial portion of the increased visitor numbers. Sri Vishwaradhya temple in Abbetumkur and Sri Mailaralingeshwar temple in Mailapur, both located in Yadgir district, along with Sri Sugureshwar temple in Shaktinagar, Raichur district, have reported record attendance figures.

The uptick in female pilgrims has been linked to the Shakti scheme, a state-level initiative designed to encourage women's participation in religious and cultural activities. Temple authorities across the region have noted that the combination of the auspicious Sharavana period and the scheme's incentives has drawn devotees in unusually large numbers.

Sri Sharavana Masa, observed during the monsoon months according to the Hindu lunar calendar, holds special religious significance and traditionally sees increased pilgrim traffic. However, the addition of the Shakti scheme appears to have amplified this seasonal trend, with temple management reporting enhanced footfalls compared to previous years.

Temple officials have increased staffing and facilities to accommodate the heightened visitor volume while maintaining proper sanitation and safety protocols. The surge underscores the continued importance of religious sites as cultural anchors in the region and the effectiveness of targeted schemes in promoting community participation in traditional observances.
