Karwa Chauth 2026: Mark your calendar for auspicious fasting date

Karwa Chauth, one of India's most widely observed festivals, will fall on a particular date in 2026, with devotees marking the occasion through fasting and evening prayers. The festival, traditionally observed by married women across northern India and other regions, involves a day-long fast undertaken for the well-being and longevity of spouses.

The exact date for observing the fast in 2026 has been determined based on the lunar calendar, with specific timings crucial for ritual observance. Devotees planning to observe the fast should note the precise date to ensure their observance aligns with traditional customs and astrological calculations.

The auspicious timing for prayers, known as the Muhurat, plays an important role in the festival's observance. Additionally, the moonrise timing is a critical element of Karwa Chauth celebrations, as the completion of the fast traditionally occurs after sighting the moon in the evening. Families typically gather to perform pujas and conclude the fast after viewing the moon and exchanging blessings.

Hindus across India and diaspora communities consider Karwa Chauth an important occasion for family bonding and the expression of marital devotion. The festival has maintained its cultural significance across generations, with many families maintaining traditional practices while adapting to modern lifestyles.
