Collector Arjun Pandian has submitted a detailed proposal to the Kerala government nominating Periye in Kasaragod district as the location for an AIIMS establishment. According to the collector's assessment, the site fulfills all mandatory criteria set by central authorities for the medical institute's development.
The central government requirements for an AIIMS location include a minimum of 200 acres of suitable land, reliable road connectivity, sufficient water and electricity supply, and existing land and infrastructure facilities. Pandian's report confirms that the Periye site meets these essential benchmarks necessary for establishing the specialized medical institution.
The Kasaragod district has long sought enhanced medical infrastructure to serve its population and address health challenges. An AIIMS facility would significantly upgrade healthcare services in the region. The proposal carries particular significance for endosulfan exposure victims in Kasaragod, who would benefit from access to the advanced medical facilities and specialized treatment services that an AIIMS establishment would provide.
The recommendation now moves to the state government for consideration and further action in coordination with central authorities. The development of an AIIMS in Kerala would represent a major addition to the state's medical infrastructure and research capabilities.
