The upcoming Kashi Tamil Sangamam 5.0 will place special emphasis on promoting Thirukkural, one of Tamil literature's most revered classical texts, across three of India's most significant religious and cultural centres. The event will facilitate cultural exchange by bringing around 1,400 delegates from Tamil Nadu to engage with the historical and spiritual significance of Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya.
Thirukkural, composed by the ancient Tamil poet Tiruvalluvar, comprises 1,330 couplets offering philosophical and ethical guidance. The text remains foundational to Tamil cultural identity and represents a crucial bridge between regional and pan-Indian literary traditions. By centring the sangamam around this work, organisers seek to showcase Tamil Nadu's intellectual contributions to India's broader cultural heritage.
The sangamam format, which translates to "confluence" in Tamil, has become an established platform for facilitating dialogue between different Indian cultural traditions. Through seminars, exhibitions, and cultural performances across the three cities, participants will examine Thirukkural's universal themes and its resonances within Sanskrit philosophical texts and broader Indian thought.
This edition continues the series' mission of deepening understanding between Tamil and North Indian cultures while reinforcing the historical and spiritual bonds linking different regions of the country.
