Kashmir CM Promotes Cinema Culture as Film Festival Draws Industry Leaders

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday attended a film screening at Srinagar's only functioning multiplex, signalling the administration's push to rejuvenate cinema culture in Jammu and Kashmir. The visit, made during an ongoing four-day film festival, highlighted the government's efforts to position the region as an emerging hub for creative industries.

Addressing attendees on the festival's second day, Abdullah said the convergence of leading artistes and filmmakers in J&K would deepen the region's cinematic credentials. "The presence of leading artistes and filmmakers in J&K would further strengthen the region's association with cinema and contribute to building a vibrant film ecosystem in J&K," he stated.

The screening represented a symbolic moment for Kashmir's struggling entertainment infrastructure, which has faced significant challenges in recent decades. The Chief Minister's presence underscored official backing for initiatives aimed at attracting film production and fostering local creative talent. Such efforts are seen as part of broader economic and cultural revival programmes in the union territory.
