Police in Kashmir have dismantled a transnational cybercrime recruitment operation that targeted vulnerable and jobless residents with false employment opportunities abroad, according to investigation officials.
The Special Investigation Agency's preliminary inquiry has revealed an alleged two-tier operational structure, with local facilitators inside Kashmir working in coordination with foreign-based handlers running scam activities from overseas. The network systematized the process of identifying and recruiting economically disadvantaged youth, presenting them with lucrative job placements as bait.
Once recruited, the victims were reportedly pushed into participating in cyber fraud schemes orchestrated from abroad. The arrangement allowed handlers to exploit the recruits while maintaining operational distance from the illegal activities.
The investigation marks a significant bust of what officials characterize as a well-organized transnational criminal network. Authorities have not yet disclosed the number of individuals arrested or the scale of fraudulent operations conducted through this racket.
The case highlights growing concerns across South Asia about cybercriminals targeting economically vulnerable populations, particularly youth in regions with higher unemployment rates, for participation in international fraud schemes.
