Authorities in Kashmir have booked a resident under provisions of the Information Technology Act for allegedly circulating a doctored terror threat list online. The case was registered following a formal complaint from Rohit Raina, a Kashmiri Pandit employee whose name was featured in the fabricated document.
Investigators said the accused, identified as Rakesh Handoo, had created and distributed the edited list through digital platforms without authorization. The action has been characterized as a deliberate attempt to defame individuals by falsely associating them with security concerns.
Police registered the case under relevant sections of the IT Act, which covers offences related to the transmission of misleading information through electronic means. Officials said the investigation revealed that the document had been deliberately altered before being shared online.
The incident underscores growing concerns about the misuse of social media platforms for spreading unverified and potentially harmful information. Authorities have cautioned residents against engaging in such activities and assured swift action against those found circulating false or defamatory content online.
